At Totalserve, our headquarters (Totalserve House) has been located at 17 Gregoriou Xenopoulou Street in Limassol for decades. It is an address that appears everywhere - on our website, business cards, emails and countless documents. But how many of us know the story behind the name?
Gregorios Xenopoulos was born in Constantinople on 9 December 1867 and grew up in Zakynthos. Although he enrolled at the University of Athens to study physics and mathematics, writing soon became his life's work.
He became one of the most prolific figures in modern Greek literature, writing more than 80 novels, dozens of short stories and 46 theatrical plays. Many of his best-known works were inspired by life in Zakynthos, while his later writing explored themes such as wealth, integrity and social change.
For more than 50 years, he edited the children's magazine Diaplasis ton Paidon and later founded the literary journal Nea Estia, which continues to be published today. In 1903, he was also the first to publicly recognise the work of Konstantinos P. Kavafis, introducing the poet to a wider audience.
Xenopoulos became a member of the Academy of Athens in 1931 and was among the founders of the Society of Greek Writers alongside Kostis Palamas, Angelos Sikelianos and Nikos Kazantzakis. He passed away in 1951.
