Moving abroad is a different proposition when you can take your work with you. If your employer or clients are outside Cyprus and you work remotely, the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa Scheme may allow you to make the island your home while keeping the professional relationships you have already built.
You might be looking for a year somewhere new, a home closer to family or a Mediterranean base for everyday life. For eligible non-EU and non-EEA nationals, the scheme offers an initial one-year residence permit, with the possibility of renewal for a further period of up to two years.
Would you qualify?
The scheme is open to people who can carry out their work remotely using telecommunications technology. You must be employed by a company registered outside Cyprus or be self-employed, providing services remotely to clients abroad.
You also need a stable net monthly income of at least €3,500 after taxes and social contributions, together with the required supporting documents, including evidence of accommodation in Cyprus and appropriate medical insurance.
What if you want to bring your family?
Your spouse or partner in a civil union and minor children may obtain residence permits for the same period as you. The income requirement increases by 20% for your spouse or partner and by 15% for each child. A couple with one child would therefore need at least €4,725 net per month.
There is an important condition to consider: family members cannot undertake employment or other economic activity in Cyprus under this status. If your partner also plans to work, you should review the available arrangements before committing to the move.
Your tax position deserves the same attention. Being paid from abroad does not automatically determine where you are tax resident or what obligations you may have. Understanding those implications early will help you assess the move on a sound financial basis.
If Cyprus is somewhere you would like to live, your current work arrangements may already provide a starting point. Totalserve can review your eligibility and family circumstances, explain the requirements and assist with the application and related tax matters. The first discussion can establish whether the scheme fits the move you have in mind.
