Liberia is a small republic in West Africa bordered by Sierra Leone Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire. The country is rich of natural resources and has signed multi billion agreements with large multinationals. Furthermore, the ratio of foreign direct investment to GDP in Liberia is one of the highest in the world, surpassing a total of US$16 billion in investments in 2006.
Another important contributor to the economy is the maritime industry. Liberia enjoys a ‘Flag of convenience’ and has the second largest ship register after Panama.
